A bit of history
In 2008, Kathy Fairchild and Amy Crump looked around, noticed that Marshall, Mo. -- in spite of residing in the heart of one of the most productive agricultural counties in the state, and in spite of the renewed emphasize on agri-tourism in the state -- did not have a farmers market.
It had something close. Produce vendors set up shop in a parking lot on the west side of town. But a farmers market, they thought, should be more. It should be a weekly event, a place where community members not only buy fresh food and crafts, but take time to stroll, time to talk, time to listen to music.
